Linear Buckling

This guided simulation process calculates the linear buckling load for the first buckling mode of a selected geometry.

STEP 1 Select Geometry File

Select the geometry on which to perform the linear buckling analysis. Note that the geometry will be automatically connected using bonded contact where possible.

STEP 2 Define Loading Conditions

Select the faces at which the structure is fully supported. All degrees of freedom will be constrained at these locations.

Select the faces at which the load will be applied. The load is assumed to be applied equally across all faces in a direction normal to the selected surface.

Define the Youngs Modulus of the material (default is that for Structural Steel).

Define the Poissons Ratio of the material (default is that for Structural Steel).

Note that all components of the structure will be combined into a single bonded structure for the linear buckling calculation

STEP 3 Review Results and Produce Report

The calculated linear buckling load is provided in this step.

The calculated linear buckling load is also stored as a Named Expression in AIM called BucklingLoad.

Select Next to produce a report summarizing the calculation setup.
