Concentrated solar power (CSP) systems use mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area of sunlight onto a small target. This drives a heat engine connected to an electrical power generator. NEM is using ANSYS technology to increase the stiffness of the mirrors to put as much reflected light as possible onto the target, called a receiver, without paying a cost premium

Aeroelastic Prediction Workshop Flight Simulator
The Aeroelastic Prediction Workshop challenges the simulation community to apply best practices to predict unsteady aerodynamics characteristics for rigid or weakly coupled aeroelastic systems. ANSYS staff used ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS CFX computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to solve the problems, then presented the results at the meeting. A select set of results is illustrated in this article and the full set is available.

Medical Technology and a Teaspoon of Sugar
For a person with diabetes, the ability to lead a normal life is partly due to technological advancements that allow him to manage the daily vagaries of the disease from the comfort and privacy of his home. The engineering technologies that make devices to handle and analyze very low volumes of fluids in small handheld devices are micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS) and microfluidics. Learn more in this blog post.

White Paper: Design for Affordability — Implications for Simulation-Based Engineering
Simulation-based engineering tools — such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics and electromagnetics field solvers — are a proven value-added contributor to the product development process in the defense industry. However, how the tools are used and who is using them is also an important factor in leveraging these tools' full value.

Recorded Web Event from SAE International: PCA Engineers Limited Accelerates the Evolution of Turbochargers via Numerical Optimization and Advanced Simulation Techniques
Turbocharging the automotive internal-combustion engine has become highly topical with the trend to downsize engine capacity toward lower emissions without compromising the driver’s perception of performance and transient response. This webcast illustrates the implementation of a design-by-analysis approach in a modern, fully integrated design environment, illustrated by examples of compressor and turbine designs for small gasoline engines.
